The Nepean River in Penrith in early morning, with the sun rising over the banks, and kayakers on the water

Go Boating on the gorgeous Nepean River!

Our Penrith Venue is located along the Nepean River on the western edge of the Cumberland plain, and is a popular location for your General Boat Licence Course or Boat & Jet Ski/PWC Licence Course.

It’s less than ten minutes drive from Emu Plains and Glenmore Park, or 25 minutes from Erskine Park, Blacktown, and Londonderry.

You might get to see the Nepean Belle Paddlewheeler cruising lazily up the river, but it’s more likely you’ll see Penrith Rowing Club’s rowers out and about at all times of the year.

The Nepean River is fed partly from Lake Nepean near Wollongong in Sydney’s South, and partly from Lake Burragorang which is where the Warragamba Dam is installed, and eventually merges with the Grose River to become the Hawkesbury River at Richmond, finally becoming the water for our Windsor Venue.

Practical Location: Tench Reserve Boat Ramp, Jamisontown

Practical Address:

Tench Reserve Boat Ramp,
78-88 Tench Ave,
Jamisontown, NSW 2750

We’ll start your Australian Boating College Sydney course at the Tench Reserve Boat Ramp, which is beside the M4 Western Motorway on the Nepean River.

Parking Spaces:

Parking your car at this venue is free.

The car park nearest to the boat ramp and opposite the Coffee Club is trailer parking only.

Don’t park in the trailer spaces as you might get a fine from Penrith City Council!

Car parking spaces are available in the secondary car park, and also line Tench Avenue.

Meeting Location:

For Penrith, we meet on the wharf beside the boat ramp, at the top of the road loop.

You’ll see our ABC Sydney Boats pull up and our Instructors will get you onboard.

Venue Amenities:

Bathrooms are available at the start of the boat ramp road loop, in the 6-sided brick building with green and white tin roof, a 2-minute level walk from the boat ramp.

Food and drinks are available at the Coffee Club Nepean River opposite the boat ramp, however it can be very busy in Summer and long queues might not leave you time to comfortably eat.

Nepean Shores Website

Parking Spaces:

Entry to Nepean Shores is gated, rarely will it be open to park inside.

The best place to park is on Tench Avenue, or simply walk up from the boat ramp.

Pedestrian access through the side of the main gate is the easiest choice.

Meeting Location:

We’ll meet you outside the large building called “Hawkesbury Hall” that lies on the northern side of Nepean Shores.

Turn left once you come through the entrance gates, and it won’t be far away.

Your Australian Boating College Instructor will be waiting in the classroom.

Meeting Location (Alternate):

In rare occasions we’ll be using a different location inside Nepean Shores, meeting you inside the L-Shaped building called “Castlereagh Room” that lies on the centre street.

It’s opposite the tennis courts, and you may see our ABC boats parked nearby.

Venue Amenities:

There are plenty of bathrooms available at this location.

There aren’t any food options inside Nepean Shores, so we suggest packing a picnic lunch.

If you’d rather purchase lunch, there are fast food options on the corner of Jamison Road and Mulgoa Road, which is a 5-minute drive.

Make sure you get back to Nepean Shores in time for your theory!
